Chunky Ragu Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Basic Information In-Game Name: Brotato/Chunky Ragu/Tommy Gabagool Steam ID / Discord Tag: STEAM_0:0:450493968 / commanderponds. Timezone: PDT Current Position(s) Held: GSD LCPL Playtime on Server (If applicable): I'd say around 10 hours Experience and Background Have you held any leadership positions within the server or other servers? (Please list positions and briefly explain your responsibilities.) I was the final captain (equivalent to security chief) of gensec on Atlas Uprising What experience do you have with administrative or organizational tasks? I have quite a bit of experience in administrative tasks both in and outside of Gmod specifically. As an officer in gensec on Atlas, for multiple months I was the primary officer available for the branch, so that meant that I did a majority of the paperwork such as roster updates, tracking down unlogged promotions, training and processing new recruits, and writing incident logs for the captain and site command. I had several months to fine tune my organizational ability when running the branch, and I feel that would translate over to this lob quite well. Describe a time you had to handle a conflict or difficult situation as a leader. What was the outcome? A time that I had to handle a tough situation as a leader was when I had to discipline one of my highest ranking Gensec for continual issues. This person who will remain unnamed was a long time member of the branch and had reached the rank of Sergeant Major, which was the highest NCO rank. I had done many things with them and had grown to trust them over a long period of time. However about a month ago I started receiving reports of them flagging other foundation personnel with a weapon off of safety, randomly discharging their weapon, and having a disregard for the orders of other branches high ranking officers. I handled this situation with a punishment of two strikes and a severe demotion, and for someone that had been active for so long it was very difficult. Availability and Activity How active are you weekly (average hours per week)? Very dependent on my work schedule, but I should sit somewhere around 15-20 hours a week on average. Are you able to consistently communicate with Site Administration and other departments? Yeah, I personally think communication is the most important part of running any kind of administration like this. I already have good relationships with multiple of the branch leads that came over from Atlas and have had a knack for making friends with just about anyone, so I think that getting to the point where it's easy to communicate will be a cinch. Do you foresee any commitments that might interfere with your activity in this role? Like I said, I have a job, however I don't forsee this being a prohibitive thing, I don't work every day of the week and even with long shifts I should be able to get on the server later in the day on days that I work. Leadership & Communication What does leadership mean to you? To me, leadership is a balance, it's very easy to fall into one of two categories as a leader, either you're an over-the-top hardass that treats everything like it's the end of the world. Or you're a leader that doesn't take anything seriously and doesn't really "lead". I think a good leader is able to be either of those leaders given the situation, but where a great leader excells is smack dab in the middle. If you're able to delegate to other people while remaining active yourself and ti be lenient and understanding but consistent with your punishments. Additionally, I believe that goofiness is a tool as a leader, it helps relate to the people around you and humanity is the best way to make people want to follow your orders and appeal to you. Another quality that I think is essential to being a good leader is recognition of effort, I know first hand what it's like to work your way up the ranks and it really feels nice to have someone from the top tell you you're doing a good job. I believe that the perfect leader is someone who doesn't fold under pressure and remains calm and fair in difficult situations, but is compassionate and cognizant of the needs of their subordinates. How do you plan to support the Site Director and the overall administration? The best place to be as the Deputy Site Director is runnings things from outside of the spotlight. The Site Director has to do the big speeches and is the highest authority in most cases, but the second in command is the one making sure that everything is running smoothly on a day to day basis. The Deputy Site Director's job, in essence, is to make sure that everyone knows what they're doing in site, while the Site Director is off in an important meeting, the DSD is ensuring that things are getting done. How would you ensure transparency and collaboration across Site departments? Namely, an important part of my role as DSD would be to solve disputes between different departments. Obviously every situation is different and the key to making sure everyone ends up happy is communication. Talking to everyone, understanding what the need or how they feel, and coming to the best solution, often being a compromise. People's emotions can very easily run hot and it's important that they know they are being heard while additionally being fair. Collaboration is more simple, foundation personnel need to see themselves as foundation personnel, not as gensec, research, or MTF. Equal standing in the eyes of site administration means nobody feels as though they are being ignored. Vision and Goals What are your goals as Site Deputy Director? Short term, my goals as Deputy Site Director are simple: 1. Give each department a stable base to depend on (i.e help the department leaders figure out how they want to run the department) 2. Teach each department to trust one another, both as departments as a whole and individual personnel. 3. Create connections between branches to facilitate collaboration. 4. Continue to provide help to whoever needs it, preferably in the proper chain of command, however staying flexible it that doesn't work. Do you have any ideas for improving Site operations or community engagement? I think that inter-branch training simulations is a great starting point for improving site ops, right now it feels like every branch is on its own island with very little communication, I think that if we can let everyone see each other more as equals and working together side by side, then we can have a happier and more effective site. Nobody should ever feel as if they aren't welcome, I think that avoiding elitism is the best way to keep people interested in the server as a whole. Final Thoughts Why do you believe you're the right person for this role? To be completely honest, I just think that I have the right combination of administrative experience and people skills. I've yet to find a person that I can't get along with and I don't plan on finding one soon. My extremely recent experience as Gensec Captain, especially with the fall of Atlas and subsequent aftermath has shown me that the right people will always find their way back, and that every ending is a new beginning. Is there anything else you’d like to add or clarify? I'd just like to finish up with how much I appreciate your acceptance of all of the former Atlas members, I'm sure the self-importance of all of the former command members has gotten on your nerves a fair bit but I truly love how willing everyone here at Odyssey was to make these massive changes. Thanks for the opportunity. Quote

FourtyFours Posted May 27 Posted May 27 Neutral Maybe if I see you more on (When the server gets up), I'll make my choice? Good application but I want to see how the person acts before I give my two cents, Deputy Site Director isn't some secretary position. Quote
